The Selous Game Reserve is Africa’s largest protected wildlife reserve, a UN World Heritage site and a pristine uninhabited area twice the size of Switzerland. It has the world’s largest number of big game – elephant, buffalo and black rhinoceros. It also contains wildebeest, eland, giraffe, waterbuck, oryx, zebra, impala, hippo, leopard and lion. There are about 400 species of birds including the globally threatened Wattled Crane and the Corncrake. The topography of the park varies from rolling savannah woodland, grassland plain and rocky outcrops cut by the great rivers and their tributaries.
There are no fixed programs – guests of The Retreat discover Africa in their own time and space – on foot, in an open 4×4, just sitting on the banks of the Ruaha River watching animals or by a exiting boat trip at Ruaha River where crocodiles, hippos and grazing game can be observed. 3 x dinner and overnight at The Retreat (LX) or Selous Kinga Lodge (AD) Full boardDay 5
